Q&A with Makeup Artist Lavinia Basso

Q&A with Makeup Artist Lavinia Basso

Q. Where are you currently living?
A. Milan, Italy

Q. How long have you been in this industry?
A. From 2016 to 2019

Q. How would you best describe your work?
A. My job is to first understand my client’s requests, analyze their face, and then apply makeup accordingly. For example, if it’s for a wedding I’m thinking more about how much more beautiful I can make this person look and feel, If it’s a Fashion show or photoshoot, I tend to focus more on creating something unique.

Q. Where do you get your inspiration from?
A. From online fashion magazines, which are easy to browse, and from any other form of art. It could be Paintings, Movies, and Videoclips

Q. What important fashion tips would you recommend?
A. My advice is to be yourself, be unique. Sure it’s beautiful to see and follow new fashion trends but it’s also important to create your own style and personality. Why not, your mood and what you feel at that moment?

Q. Would you like to see any changes within your industry?
A. I would like to change the approach that this industry has with payments. Very often, before becoming an established make-up artist, many people have to work for a very long time for free and I think this is super frustrating and not fair, plus the risk it’s also that someone may lose the passion for this job.

Q. How would you best describe your personal dress, style and makeup looks?
A. I don’t have a particular style. It depends, sometimes I like casual, sometimes glamour, and elegance. My makeup is always “glamor”, and I really focus on my eyes. I love eyeliner and everything is shining and glowing.

Q. What cities, states or countries do you think best represent the beauty industry?
A. I think the best are Italy, France, and the USA.

Q. What advice would you give others pursuing a career in your field?
A. My advice is to work hard, don’t give up but at the same time get respected because often in my country this job is not taken seriously, like a real job.
